Junior classes

Junior Secondary is a phase of education for students in Years 7 to 9, which caters to the specific needs of these young adolescent learners by focusing on their academic, social and emotional wellbeing.

At Maryborough State High School we are continually developing and extending programs and processes to ensure that students are supported and encouraged to develop their own potential within the school.

Leadership programs and pastoral care programs are designed to meet the social and emotional needs of junior secondary students, providing opportunities for leadership across the school.

At Maryborough State High School, students in Junior Secondary work with their teachers to set individual learning targets and demonstrate a daily commitment to improving their learning.

We have developed a distinct pedagogical framework for teaching and learning for young adolescents which includes a focus on communicating learning goals, tracking student progress and celebrating success.

This has resulted in maximised learning time in highly managed and disciplined classrooms.

Teachers use a common language of instruction which supports students to attain essential literacy and numeracy skills, develop higher-order thinking skills, and take ownership of their learning, getting students ready for the senior secondary phase of education.

Our junior secondary program has its core:

  • Quality teaching - data informed instruction within a curriculum structure that includes goal setting and celebration of success to best meet the needs of Junior Secondary students.
  • Student wellbeing - effective transition into the secondary context, supported by high expectations for all students within a safe and supportive learning environment.

At Maryborough State High School we:

  1. Know our students
