Drama students have opportunities to learn about a range of styles of the dramatic art form and gain understanding of human experience in different cultures, times and places. Engaging in drama promotes imaginations, critical and creative thinking, problem solving, cultural engagement and communication and provides opportunities to share ideas with others through performance.
Junior students will engage with units of work such as The Elements of Drama, Kabuki Theatre, Theatre Sports, Realism, Collage and Commedia Dell' Arte. Senior Drama students explore Australian Theatre, Greek and Physical Theatre, Political/Epic Theatre, Absurdism and Verbatim Theatre.
Drama students at Maryborough High have the opportunity to view live theatre and participate in professional workshops with experts in the field during an annual excursion to Brisbane. We also have various artists travel to the school for workshops specific to units of work being studied. Students also have various opportunities to perform for public audiences at MADD Concert, our Theatre and Dance Showcase, and our school Musicals/Theatre restaurants which, in the past have included 'Snapshots from Home, Ma Baker's Tonic and Rome Sweet Rome.'
